Job Title: Application Engineer, Permanent position.

Overall Objective of Job:

Become an expert engineer in a number of software products that were developed by silverminute/Oakwell and be responsible for all fixes, enhancements or modifications for these products where these fixes, enhancements or modifications are done by yourself or managed by yourself.

Reporting to the Application Management Centre Manager and being responsible to mentor junior developers or new team members where required.

Maintenance is required for the current products:

  • SQN - Client Management & Servicing (CMS)
  • SQN - Disclosures
  • SQN - Assets-under-Management (AUM)
  • Radix
  • Mobilo



Main Responsibilities / Tasks:

Understand the product/s used by the client/s from a technical design as well as business process of the product.

  • Take ownership of all source code and related documentation for the Product.
  • Maintain a virtual environment at Oakwell for the latest client environment at all times and keep all relevant documentation (including comments in code, etc) up to date
  • Gain an understanding of how the Product is used by the client and any critical processes that take place around the product (e.g. monthly reporting)
  • Identify opportunities to enhance the technical solution of the product as well as the Business processes and usability of the product and document all possible product enhancements and present these to Application Management Centre Manager and to clients where applicable
  • E.g. Propose to upgrade an Application from SQL Server 2000 to SQL Server 2005 due to a number of defined business and technical benefits (as related to the product)
  • Respond to client support calls within the pre-defined SLA agreement
  • Manage resolution of support calls and enhancement requests around the products for which you are responsible and support other members of the Application Management centre where required (by helping with their calls or technical solutions etc)
  • Develop all fixes, enhancements and modifications to the products, as required to meet client needs and requirements (where applicable, a larger team within Oakwell will be put together to assist in large enhancements or modifications of your product – this team will be supported by yourself and you will be responsible to take ownership of the new enhancements / modifications once completed)
  • The aim of the Application Management Centre is to be an independently focused team around a number of pre-defined and selected products, you will be responsible to help with this goal
  • Remain abreast of all technical changes within the Microsoft development field and identify opportunities to use new technologies or approaches to enhance the products
  • Where required attend Microsoft conferences and training
  • Mentoring and managing other developers to assist in fixes, enhancements or modifications of your products
  • Participate in monthly team knowledge sharing sessions where applications and technology changes are presented and discussed

Knowledge & Skills:

Desirable Qualifications:

  • IT related degree or diploma

Key Qualifications:

  • Microsoft Development related qualification

Development Skills:
At least 3 years experience and proficient in:

  • .NET Framework version 1.0 and later
  • VB.NET
  • C#
  • ASP.NET
  • VB6 and ASP
  • Visual Studio 2005 (exposure to TFS beneficial)
  • SQL Server 2000 and 2005
